I need to open the old sessions of a multisession CD-ROM. Having heard once
that Macs would mount each session automagically, I thought this would be no
problem. However my Macs (OS 8.1, an 8600/300 and a 7500/100) seem to work
"correctly" and only see the last session. How can I get to the older
sessions?
I have searched dejanews and numerous search engines, but have only found
items which are oriented toward fixing the problem I wish I had, which is to
open each session separately.
Thanks,

My experience with multi-session CD's worked but I had FWB CD-ROM Toolkit
installed on my Quadra 610 (OS8.1). Hope this helps...

I always had problems trying to use the LPT ports to print directly from
VPC. Try using the pass-thru to the Mac driver or else set up the printer
as a network printer so Win can see it thru TCP.
Note that the pass-thru is a terrible way to do permanent printing. It is
slow and can crash one or both of the systems.

Another solution is to set the PostScript driver to save as
file, and then switch back to the MacOS and use the LaserWriter
driver of your choice...
Also, I was looking at the WinMac and MacWindows sites, and HP printers
specifically will NOT accept binary files. [I believe it was on the
"Unsolved Mysteries" page...]
Cheers!

1) "Mutlisession Mounter" from Toast. If you press the CD on Mac, you
proably use Toast. This little Control Panel is included in the Toast.
2) FBW's "CD-ROM Toolkit" has the option to mount all sessions.
I thought Apple's CD-ROM is default to have all sessions mounted, but I'm
not so sure.
I'd interested in a similar solution for PC. So far, I cannot find a way to
mount multiple sessions on PC...
Hope this helps,
Changhsu Liu

Apple's CD rom driver does not. You'll need to get FWB's CD-Rom toolkit
to do that...it is a replacement CD-Driver for Apple's.

For those of you having DHCP problems check out:

Apparently there have been a number of people having problems using
RoadRunner cable modem service which uses DHCP.

I'm sorry, but there are many subscribers to the list who simply do
not like to have their mailboxes flooded with messages with very
little new content, musings on vaporware, oblique attacks on Steve
Jobs, etc. They don't want to have to set up special filters or have
to continually use the delete key. I know because they have told me
when they have unsubscribed. And we have lost some valuable list
members.

I've said it before, if someone doesn't want to read a message, they should
simply skip over it. Seems to be the obvious and easy answer.
With the number of cross-platform users on this list, A discussion of Apple on
Intel or Alpha (perhaps aside from rumor-mongering) is both interesting and
relevant. A thread dies when there is no longer sufficient interest to support
it -- and of course if all of the messages remain between just a couple of
folks, probably better they take it off-list.
Frankly, one of the reasons we were so hopeful about CHRP was the initial plan
to port NT to it -- allowing us to feel completely comfortable about an
investment in our hardware should we need to work a different OS into
the box. A
dual boot option (and I don't mean VPC, though I use it) is still pretty
attractive to me. How many folks on the list have said they maintain two
different computers because of business requirements and/or personal
preferences?
It is clear to me that as long as Apple can demonstrate advantages to users and
developers for running Mac OS on PPC, they'll have a market for it (after all,
look at Sony's dominance with Beta in the professional video market). It's also
pretty clear that at least on the surface there is a business case for offering
Mac OS on Intel -- how many flavors of Linux are there? (and again,
Sony makes a
buck or two selling VHS systems).
It's also clearly easier for Apple to convince itself (well, maybe not...) to
support other processors, than to convince MS to port Access to the Mac.
Some folks won't find the thread a bit interesting -- so they should use the
features built into their e-mail clients and go around it. If they get
disgruntled about reading another posting on the subject, nobody
forced them to.
And it takes mere seconds to scan the subject list at the top of the digest. If
they get touchy about seeing a subject line over and over, they're probably a
little too intense for their own good (kinda like those guys who write lengthy
responses to one-line postings... whooaa, I think *I* just did that!).

Short Question: I'm trying to get postscript printouts from an HP8000 and a
Xerox 32N which live on the PC side of our network.
Detailed Explanation:
Our Mac environment is a small network segment on an otherwise large PC
Ethernet network.
On the PC network, they have a HP8000 and a Xerox N32 (both Postscript
printers) which I want to print to from my Mac.
I setup an LPR desktop printer (downloaded the appropriate PPD). The Desktop
Printer Utility had no trouble connecting to the printers via IP. And I
could set it up through the chooser.
When I print however, my Mac freezes or the printers just print raw
postscript.
Both printers default language is PCL not Postscript but are supposed to be
autoswitching. The PC users print to them via a NT Print Spooler. (with a
User page in between)
So I thought I'd try Dave (from Thursby). I again created a printer via the
Dave Print Client. When I print from QuarkXPress I get the warning that I
can't print binary (a limitation of NT Print Spoolers I believe?). Even if I
convert all EPS images to ASCII and tell QXP to sent the print job in ASCII
it gives me the same error. If I suppress the images it sends the document
but again it only generates raw postscript.
Anybody has an idea what else to try?
Thanks...martin
